  • Tutorial: MC for chromebook

So after helping Nightinga1e with this, I decided to make this a post.

So yes, mc for chromebook is possible even though it says it's not, you just need either acer, dell, or HP chromebook for this to work right (there maybe more that work but samsung doesn't because i've tried it before).

NOTE: playing minecraft with chromebook means, copy/paste doesn't work in commands, can't click links, no screenshots, and no mods (at least idk how to get mods on chromebook.)

    1. Sign out but leave it turned on and press esc + refresh (3rd key from esc) + power key.

    2. After you see the big yellow "!" press ctrl+d.

    3. Press Enter Key to confirm.

    4. Now wait untill the bar at the top reaches the end (sometimes 10minutes)

    5. When it's done it says press space to re-enable DON'T do that, press ctrl+d again or just wait 30 secs and do nothing.

    6. Now set up all the information such as wifi, gmail, etc.

    7. Go to google search and go to this link dnschneid/crouton · GitHub

    8. Click the goo.gl link near the top.

    9. press ctrl+alt+T
(and yes there is a small bit of coding xD)
    10. Type "shell" and press enter.
    11. Now type "sudo sh -e ~/Downloads/crouton -r saucy -t kde" and press enter.

    12. Now time for a bit more waiting, it should start making tons of crazy code on the screen. The better the internet, better speed on this getting done. (30mins max)

    13. It asks for a username. Type what ever username you want there and press enter.

    14. Same with password HOWEVER the password will not show on the screen but your are typing ;)

    15. Type "sudo startkde" and press enter. It will launch into a different interface called KDE.

    16. note: to switch back to chrome, press ctrl+alt+L arrow(F1) from chrome to go to kde, pressctrl+alt+R arrow and let go of R arrow and press refresh to go back to kde.

    17. Switch to chrome (using the info provided in step 16.)

    18. Now get on minecraft.net and login. Go to download and find Minecraft for Linux and clickMinecraft.jar.

    19. It will download in the bottom left corner and don't click it.

    20. Now switch back to kde (once again step 16).

    21. Now click the K in the bottom left corner and type konsole in the search bar. Click konsole when it appears.

    22. Caps is important!
    Type mkdir ~/games press enter.
    Then mkdir ~/games/minecraft and enter.
Then mv ~/Downloads/Minecraft.jar ~/games/minecraft press enter.
Finally sudo apt-get install openjdk-6-jre and enter.

    23. After a few lines of code pops up, it will say (y/n)? Type y and press enter.

    24. Wait for everything to download like before and do step 25 when it says Done.

    25. Now type sudo apt-get install kmenuedit press enter and close konesole.

    26. Now you can RIGHT CLICK the K and click edit applications.

    27. Click Games and click New Item a window pops up and type Minecraft in the blank and click Ok.

    28. You will see a few empty blanks, click the Command blank and type java -jar Minecraft.jar.

    29. Click the Advanced tab and click the Work Path blank. Type ~/games/minecraft/
    30. Now click the box that says Run in terminal to check mark it, click save and close the editer.

Optional: Click K and type Minecraft and drag Minecraft over onto the desktop screen.

Now you can click on it to play mc!

Note: If you turn on your chromebook, you will always see the yellow "!" press ctrl+D to continue, not space.
To launch kde after logging on to your google account, press ctrl+alt+T, type shell, after that type sudo startkde.

If you have any problems tell me :D

Rate this tutorial useful if you like it!

Nice! Great tut for ChromeBook users, I can't believe they can't make it simpler... Its really simple by default doing that (anyone could do it), but that's so unpleasant and un-user-friendly...

yea alot of people don't know it's possible, simply because clicking download on mc says "not compatible with chrome os" but its better to pay $199 on on of these for mc rather than $500-1000 dollars for a regular PC.
